Communications Division

The OSU Police Department Support Services includes the department’s communications and records units.  

The Communications unit is located in the department's communication center. The center is a well-equipped, modern police dispatch center. Eight full-time emergency services dispatchers, who are certified through the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International, staff the OSU Police Communications Unit. They train to quickly and accurately prioritize and respond to emergency and non-emergency calls from the public as well as to liaise with multiple departments across campus, and outside campus, for maintenance, security, and communication and coordination with other jurisdictions. Answering calls from multiple sources, including emergency blue phones, elevators, and the Rave Guardian app, these dispatchers are also responsible for communicating with patrol units in the field by way of land mobile radio to assist patrol in their duties. The communications room is equipped with multiple phones, a computer-aided dispatch system, telephone and radio recording systems, surveillance for specific spots across campus, access to the Oklahoma Law Enforcement Telecommunications System and National Crime Information Center, as well as a campus wide intrusion, trouble, and fire alarm system.

The communications center staff answers the majority of the telephone calls to the OSU Police Department and all emergency phones. All 911 calls originating from a campus landline telephone are routed directly to the communications center where the caller’s name and location information are available through the university's enhanced 911 computer system. All Emergency Blue Phone calls are answered directly by the communications center as well.


Records Division

The department’s Police Records Unit is located in the front of the department where it also serves as reception to the lobby area and provides the first point of contact for customer assistance. Lobby hours: Monday – Friday 08:00 a.m. to 05:00 p.m.  Closed weekends, university holidays, and university closings.  Outside of times records personnel or on duty, help is gained by contacting the communications center via intercom system located near the entry door.

Records is an ever changing and growing area of the police department.  Current staff includes one full time civilian employee and four part time student employees who perform accurate processing and data entry into the records management system of all police reports. The Records Unit is responsible for the input, maintenance, retrieval, archive, statistical reports and security of OSU Police law enforcement records.  Records can provide assistance with obtaining copies of reports, traffic accidents, criminal history checks, as well as, impound releases, deferred citations, and firearms check in/out. In addition, the Records Unit compiles and completes statistical reports monthly to OSBI and FBI along with coordinating distribution of police reports to other law enforcement agencies and the courts for prosecutorial proceedings.

In addition, the OSU Police Records Unit serves as one of the University’s Lost and Found locations.  Inquiries may be made in person or by calling 405-744-2844 or 405-744-2845 during lobby hours. Every attempt is made to contact property owners for property return.  Lost and Found items are kept for a minimum period of six months before disposal in accordance with the laws of the State of Oklahoma.
