The Chief's Brief: December 2025

Tuesday, December 9, 2025

Welcome to this month’s Chief’s Brief: a monthly column to let you, the community, know what has been happening on the campus, where you can meet an officer, answer any questions you have about your university police department and read a monthly safety tip.

As the fall semester comes to a close, I want to congratulate the students who have achieved so much and are one step closer to their goals. I especially would like to congratulate all the fall graduates whose hard work has paid off. As they walk across the commencement stage to receive their degree, it will be a testament to our mission here at Oklahoma State University. On that note, I want to extend a special thanks to the faculty and staff who deserve praise for making it another successful semester.

This fall, our OSUPD officers conducted 51 community outreach events between our Stillwater and Tulsa campuses, including Cover the Cruiser, Project Safe Stop, Career Fairs, 1st Gen Cook Out and many more. If you missed out, don’t worry, as we have many exciting things planned for the spring semester.

Monthly Calls for Service

OSUPD calls for service increased by 38% in November. OSUPD Stillwater and Tulsa Division averaged 58.5 calls and 4.5 traffic encounters a day. We are still experiencing an upward trend in calls for service, but overall crime rates have seen a decrease.

  • Vehicle accidents decreased by 40%
  • Arrests decreased by 14%
  • Reports decreased by 20%

Upcoming OSUPD Events:

  • Dec. 13, Gallagher-Iba Arena: OSUPD will be working at the OSU Commencement.
  • Dec. 13, Paycom Center in Oklahoma City: OSUPD will be supporting men’s and women’s basketball as they face that other Oklahoma school.

Safety Tips:

  • As we are in the holiday season, remember to pay attention to your surroundings as you are out enjoying the holiday festivities.
  • Keep gifts in the trunk or out of plain sight. Keep your hands free as you walk to your car, and don’t flash cash and expensive items.
  • Tell somebody your plans, whether it’s shopping, dinner or travel — the more that know, the better.
  • Don’t forget to download the Rave Guardian app from the Apple or Google Play Store. For more information and links to download, visit safety.okstate.edu/safety-resources/rave-guardian.html.

Enjoy the holidays with your friends and family. See you next semester.
