The Chief's Brief: March 2026
Monday, March 9, 2026
Welcome to this month’s Chief’s Brief, a monthly column to let the Oklahoma State University community know what’s been happening on the campus, where you can meet an officer, find answers to questions about your university police department, and where we offer a monthly safety tip.
OSU prides itself on being a forward-thinking agency that takes proactive steps to keep our community safe. Several areas of the department go unseen but are always prepared and ready to respond.
OSUPD Emergency Operations Center: The EOC serves as a high-tech command center for disaster response, weather monitoring and the development of emergency action plans. The EOC houses the OSUPD Central Dispatch Center, which handles emergency 911 calls for OSU-Stillwater, OSU-Tulsa, and OSU’s Center for Health Sciences.
Environmental Health and Safety: EHS also falls under the OSUPD. Its area of responsibility is environmental compliance, fire and life safety, laboratory safety, and occupational and construction safety, where the team promotes health, safety and environmental protection across labs, classrooms, university programs, activities and more. EHS provides monthly training opportunities for the campus community and also creates events promoting safety at different locations on campus throughout the year.

Safety Tips:
- As we enter Oklahoma’s primary severe weather season, make sure you monitor the local weather forecast and gather supplies in the event of power outages for you, your family and your pets.
- On campus, familiarize yourself with your surroundings and review the locations of severe weather refuges.
- Spring break safety tips: If going out of the country, check the U.S. State Department for any travel advisories. Stop by travel.state.gov, then click on “Travel Advisories.”
- Also, if you travel out of the country, give your itinerary to a friend or family member, have an emergency contact, and know the location of the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate.
- Don’t forget to download the Rave Guardian app from the Apple or Google Play Store.
- For more information and links to download, visit safety.okstate.edu/safety-resources/rave-guardian.html.
- Be travel-wise, have situational awareness and enjoy spring break, Cowboys!
